| CARE is working in conjuction with the group Farm Animal Welfare Network (FAWN), a student group at the University of Iowa. FAWN was formed by Alyson Powers, who works at the university as an adviser in the interdisciplinary department. The purpose of FAWN is to provide a resource and activity group for University of Iowa students concerned about the mistreatment of animals in factory farms, as well as abuse at stockyards and slaughterhouses. Activities will include public outreach and education campaigns such as sponsoring ads around campus promoting veg*an/cruelty-free living, hosting information sessions about factory farms, legislation awareness and letter-writing resources, as well as a social outlet for students to meet like-minded individuals. Membership is open to all University of Iowa students, faculty, staff, and members of the community. |

| CARE is also working with the group Student Animal Legal Defense Fund (SALDF), also at the University of Iowa, but at the Iowa Law School. The president of SALDF is Leana Stormont. SALDF is dedicated to the following goals: (1) educating the Iowa Law School community about forms of institutionalized animal abuse, (2) fostering awareness about means of combating this abuse through litigation and legal change; and, (3) providing opportunities for students to work on projects aimed at protecting the lives and interests of animals. SALDF's mission is to provide a forum for education, advocacy, and scholarship aimed at protecting the lives and advancing the interests of animals through the legal system, and raising the profile of the field of animal law. As well as with FAWN, membership is open to all University of Iowa students, faculty, staff, and members of the community. |
